Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Ottawa to commence an official visit to Canada. The purpose of the visit is to enhance bilateral relations and expand strategic cooperation between the two nations. This visit underscores the longstanding partnership between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada, as both countries aim for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled is set to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Their discussions will focus on deepening economic ties, boosting investment, and advancing cooperation in key sectors. Sheikh Khaled is accompanied by a senior UAE delegation, including Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment.
This visit follows recent high-level talks between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Carney on strengthening economic and technological partnerships. A significant development in UAE-Canada relations was the finalization of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in July 2026. The agreement aims to reduce trade barriers and improve market access for goods, services, and investments, thereby creating new business opportunities in both countries.
The partnership between the UAE and Canada is expected to foster cooperation across various strategic industries, such as energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports. It also builds on a UAE investment commitment of $50 billion, announced during Carney’s visit to the UAE. The UAE is recognized as Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, making this relationship a vital component of Canada’s regional trade strategy.
Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada comes after his recent official trip to Greece, where discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation. The UAE announced plans for an additional €15 billion investment in Greece as part of a joint initiative, demonstrating its broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation and expand global investment opportunities.
