The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of recent remarks made by the Houthi group targeting Saudi Arabia. Among the threats was a proposal to enforce a maritime blockade on the kingdom. In response, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the global community to uphold United Nations Security Council resolutions that are crucial to Yemen’s situation and safeguarding maritime security in the Red Sea.
Particularly, the ministry underscored the importance of Resolution 2216, which pertains to Yemen, and Resolution 2722, focused on safeguarding navigation rights and ensuring freedom of movement in the Red Sea. The UAE emphasized that, according to international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, freedom of navigation in international waters must be upheld.
The UAE’s statement also expressed unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, stressing their commitment to the kingdom’s security and stability. They affirmed their solidarity with Saudi Arabia in the face of threats and highlighted their backing for any measures that protect the nation from such risks.
The UAE’s call to action aims to ensure that international laws are respected, particularly in regions where tensions pose a threat to peace and stability. By advocating for adherence to UN resolutions, the UAE seeks to foster an environment where maritime security is prioritized, thereby preventing disruptions that could have far-reaching consequences.
