Thailand is enhancing its global aviation ties by forming new collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai, while also upgrading its regional airport systems to boost connectivity and tourism. This strategic move marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s aviation infrastructure and fostering international travel links.
Vietnam Airlines has recently inaugurated a new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, with flights commencing on July 2. This service operates four times a week and offers an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. The introduction of this route is designed to accommodate the increasing number of travelers from Vietnam, a country that contributed over 300,000 visitors to Thailand in the first half of the year.
In a similar vein, flydubai has launched daily flights between Dubai and Bangkok starting from July 1. The airline plans to further expand this service to twice daily beginning September 15, thereby enhancing the connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand. This expansion is expected to facilitate greater travel and economic interaction between the two regions.
On the domestic front, Thailand is set to implement the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at regional airports, which aims to enhance air traffic management and operational efficiency. The introduction of AFIS is anticipated to improve access to secondary cities, further supporting regional development. Initially, the AFIS system will be rolled out at Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028, with potential plans for broader application in other regional airports.
