The Zayed Sustainability Prize in the UAE has set a new benchmark by receiving 10,233 submissions from 177 different countries for its 2027 awards cycle. This represents a significant 32% increase compared to the previous year. The prestigious award is dedicated to recognizing groundbreaking projects that tackle pressing global issues across sectors such as climate action, health, food, energy, and water, in addition to honoring global high schools.
Each winner in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will be rewarded with $1 million. Finalists in these categories will receive $150,000. Furthermore, six high schools will emerge victorious with $150,000 each, while those reaching the finalist stage will be granted $25,000. The prize aims to incentivize and support innovative solutions that have a meaningful impact on global communities.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General, commented on the record-breaking number of entries, attributing it to the increasing global need for solutions that are both practical and innovative in improving quality of life. Notably, more than two-thirds of the applications came from developing and emerging economies, with climate action standing out as the category with the most entries. This trend underscores the urgent demand for sustainable approaches to environmental challenges worldwide.
The list of finalists is set to be unveiled in September, leading up to the much-anticipated awards ceremony scheduled for January 12, 2027. This event will celebrate the achievements of those who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and capability in addressing some of the world’s most critical challenges. As the awards continue to grow in prestige and reach, they reflect a collective global effort to foster sustainability and innovation across multiple spheres.
