As South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) seek to deepen their strategic partnership, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung hosted a meeting with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi, at Cheong Wa Dae on Friday. This meeting follows a significant agreement made during Lee’s state visit to the UAE in November, aimed at fostering a long-term partnership between the two nations.
President Lee expressed gratitude towards the UAE for its prioritization of crude oil supplies to South Korea earlier in March, highlighting the growing cooperation in diverse sectors such as defense, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, and cultural exchanges. Lee emphasized the importance of strengthening communication between officials from both countries to turn their collaborative efforts into tangible projects, reinforcing bilateral relations based on mutual trust.
Al Mubarak, conveying greetings from UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, described South Korea as a vital partner, noting the expansion of bilateral cooperation beyond traditional areas like energy and infrastructure. He pointed out that both countries are now exploring joint ventures in investment, space, healthcare, and education.
The timing of this engagement comes as both nations anticipate further high-level discussions, with the potential for a summit in South Korea next month being considered. This reflects the broader geopolitical and economic context in which South Korea and the UAE are striving to enhance their strategic ties through multifaceted collaboration.
