The United Arab Emirates is set to transform its education landscape with the Cabinet’s recent approval of an artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum slated for all public and private schools. This initiative is a part of the nation’s broader strategy to integrate AI into educational and governmental frameworks. Students across the UAE will delve into the essentials of AI, gaining insights into data analysis, algorithmic processes, practical applications, potential risks, and ethical considerations. Furthermore, the program aims to equip 22,000 teachers and educators with the skills needed to integrate AI into their teaching methodologies, assessments, lesson planning, and curriculum development.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for educators to adequately prepare students for a future that is evolving at an unprecedented pace. This initiative is complemented by the Cabinet’s approval of a sophisticated AI advisory system. This system, equipped with 32 specialized AI assistants, will aid ministers by evaluating policies, legislation, and government strategies through comprehensive analysis of proposals, assessing potential impacts, and benchmarking against global practices, all while aligning with the UAE’s national priorities.
In a significant move towards technological advancement, the Cabinet also laid down regulations for autonomous vehicles. This framework is set to establish the necessary procedures for the testing, inspection, registration, and licensing of self-driving vehicles. These measures aim to not only bolster cleaner transportation options but also contribute to reducing traffic congestion across the country.
Digital transformation in the UAE has made remarkable strides, as evidenced by the completion of hundreds of millions of digital transactions through government services and the implementation of numerous digital projects over the last year. This progress underscores the UAE’s commitment to harnessing technology to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
Additionally, the Cabinet has given the nod to a National Ecotourism Policy and evaluated developments under the National Strategy to Combat Desertification 2022–2030. These initiatives are focused on safeguarding ecosystems, rehabilitating degraded lands, and preserving indigenous plant life, reflecting the UAE’s dedication to environmental sustainability alongside its technological advancements.
