Anwar Gargash, a diplomatic adviser from the United Arab Emirates, has expressed criticism towards Iran’s approach of targeting Gulf states and Jordan, labeling it as ineffective. He emphasized the necessity for realistic and sustainable political solutions to resolve the persistent regional conflict. Highlighting the unsustainable situation of “neither war nor peace,” Gargash called for urgent measures to reduce tensions and to restore regular navigation through the crucial Strait of Hormuz. His remarks follow a series of renewed Iranian attacks on regional targets amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
In response to these developments, the UAE Ministry of Defence announced on August 31 that it had intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters. The Ministry also dismissed reports from Iranian media claiming that Al Minhad Air Base near Dubai was struck by missiles, asserting that the facility continues to maintain a high level of readiness. Gargash stressed that any enduring resolution must consider both the political and economic repercussions of the conflict, criticizing a previous memorandum of understanding for its failure to offer a practical and agreeable roadmap to resolving the crisis.
The ongoing disputes have positioned the Strait of Hormuz at the heart of the conflict, with persistent disruptions to shipping posing significant risks to regional economies and global energy markets.
