The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed its support for a recent appeal by the United States urging for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan. This call also emphasizes the need for renewed efforts towards a political resolution to the ongoing conflict in the country.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, affirmed the UAE’s commitment to international efforts aimed at halting the fighting in Sudan. He underscored the importance of initiating a political process that would eventually lead to the establishment of a civilian government. The UAE’s endorsement aligns with broader international initiatives to bring peace and stability to the region.
The minister highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Sudan, calling for measures to protect civilians and address their needs. He stressed the necessity of ending hostilities and embarking on a comprehensive political dialogue to resolve the conflict. This approach, he suggested, would help mitigate the suffering faced by the Sudanese population.
In a bid to curb the violence, the UAE has proposed the expansion of the United Nations arms embargo to encompass the entirety of Sudan’s territory. The UAE believes that such a measure could significantly reduce the flow of weapons into the country, thereby enhancing the protection of civilians.
Furthermore, the UAE reiterated its willingness to collaborate with international partners to support a political solution and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. This commitment reflects the UAE’s broader diplomatic engagement in seeking peace and stability within the region.
